DADO CURIOSO
O teatro romano em Orange, no sul da França, tem capacidade para 7.000 pessoas sentadas.

Os romanos importantes consideravam o teatro um entretenimento vulgar. Por isso, muitos teatros romanos eram simples estruturas de madeira que não sobreviveram ao tempo.

Os melhores exemplos do teatro romano podem ser encontrados fora da cidade de Roma, onde essa arte foi uma forma de entretenimento mais popular. Os Teatros de pedra tinham forma de ferradura e eram construídos nas colinas. Eles possuíam assentos colocados em fileiras e um grande palco rodeado por grandes paredes. O campo de visão e a acústica eram excelentes.

Tetos de madeira ou lona protegiam o público do sol. Na Pompéia, havia um aparelho que deixava cair pequenas quantidades de água para refrescar os espectadores. Um dos melhores teatros fica em Orange, no sul da França, onde a grande parede – que mede 35 m de altura e 103 de comprimento – continua erguida.
