Competidores de 11 divisões disputam uma posição, tendo os arranha-céus da cidade ao fundo, no início da clássica corrida de barcos a motor de Sydney a Hobart, no porto de Sydney, domingo, 26 de dezembro de 2004. A corrida oceânica anual de 630 milhas náuticas está em seu 60º ano.

Corrida de Sidney a Hobart

Tripulação do barco de corrida Skandia acena ao partir do Porto de Sydney no início da clássica corrida de barcos de Sydney a Hobart, em Sydney, domingo, 26 de dezembro de 2004. A corrida de 630 milhas náuticas tem 116 competidores em 11 divisões.

A corrida de barcos de Sidney a Hobart acontece todos os anos no feriado Boxing Day (26 de dezembro), e cobre uma distância de quase 630 milhas náuticas.

Ela acontece há mais de 60 anos, e é organizada pelo Cruising Iate Clube da Austrália e pelo Iate Clube Real da Tasmânia.

A corrida leva, em média, mais de três dias para ser completada, e é descrita como uma das mais árduas e desafiadoras corridas oceânicas do mundo. Milhares de espectadores visitam o início e o fim da corrida, em Sydney e Hobart, respectivamente, para dar uma olhada nos barcos da competição.

O evento acontece no meio do verão australiano, e a festa de encerramento em Hobart acontece normalmente na noite do Ano Novo.
