A Tragédia do Titanic
Introdução

O Titanic, o luxuoso navio britânico a vapor, media 269 metros e foi o maior transatlântico de seu tempo. Devido à sua robusta estrutura feita em aço, o navio era considerado “impossível de afundar”. Em sua viagem inaugural, de Southampton para New York, seu destino foi selado. Durante a noite de 14 de abril de 1912, a cerca de 153 km ao sul dos Grandes Bancos de Newfoundland, o Titanic colidiu com um enorme iceberg. O casco do navio foi tão danificado que toneladas de água afluíram para os compartimentos. Finalmente, o Titanic partiu-se ao meio e afundou. Como não havia botes salva-vidas suficientes para todos, apenas 700 dos 1311 passageiros e 897 tripulantes a bordo conseguiram se salvar.

Até hoje, o dramático naufrágio do luxuoso transatlântico permanece como uma das tragédias mais terríveis da história da navegação.
